Sub Agent
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Site Engineer or Sub Agent to join a growing rail delivery team working on major Edinburgh to Fife Rail Enhancement Projects. This role is ideal for an individual with strong setting out expertise and proven experience supporting and supervising rail construction sites in a live operational environment.
Reporting to the Site Agent / Project Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of rail enhancement works, supporting both engineering control and site supervision. You will be responsible for ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately and in line with programme and quality requirements, while providing on-site leadership to engineers, supervisors and subcontractors.
The role will involve working on multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure projects including trackside civils, structures, earthworks, platforms and associated enabling works along the Edinburgh to Fife route.
Key Responsibilities
– Setting out and surveying for rail and civil engineering works
– Supporting the supervision and coordination of site activities, labour, plant and subcontractors
– Ensuring all works comply with health, safety, environmental and quality standards
– Reviewing and interpreting drawings, specifications and construction information
– Maintaining accurate site records, diaries and as-built information
– Assisting with short-term and weekly planning of works
– Supporting the production and review of:
– Risk Assessments
– Work Package Plans
– Inspection & Test Plans
– Task Briefings / Safe Work Packs
– Managing dimensional control and ensuring works are built to design tolerance
– Supporting the Site Agent with technical input, progress reporting and problem-solving
Essential Experience & Skills
– Proven experience as a Site Engineer / Senior Site Engineer or Sub Agent within rail
– Strong setting out and surveying capability
– Experience supervising site activities and supporting site management
– Sound understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and standards
– Experience working on rail infrastructure or enhancement projects
– Ability to manage records, QA documentation and site reporting
Qualifications & Certifications
– Degree / HNC / HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
– PTS (Personal Track Safety)
– SMSTS (for Sub Agent level) – desirable
