Quantity Surveyor
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to join their growing division. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading commercial role across a diverse portfolio of rail projects, working within specialist sectors including Civils, Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), Permanent Way (P-Way), Electrification and Plant (ETE), Energy, and Infrastructure.
As the Commercial Lead on assigned projects, you will be responsible for driving commercial performance, managing contractual obligations, and supporting the successful delivery of projects ranging in value from £5,000 to £5 million.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, senior management, project teams, and key stakeholders.
Prepare and submit high-quality commercial documentation, including Applications for Payment, Compensation Events, Variations, and Final Accounts, ensuring timely agreement and payment while minimising work in progress (WIP).
Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Finance teams, and other stakeholders to deliver accurate commercial reporting and forecasting.
Manage project costs, budgets, and forecasts against contractual baselines.
Lead the procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers.
Act as the Commercial Lead on allocated projects, ensuring effective commercial governance and accurate site record management.
Drive cost control initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance project margins and profitability.
Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, audit standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Produce regular commercial reports and provide insightful analysis to senior management.
Mentor and support the development of junior commercial team members.
Provide commercial input and support to bid and estimating teams during tender submissions.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the rail, infrastructure, or construction sectors.
Strong commercial awareness and experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
Desirable
Experience working with NEC, ICC, and bespoke contract forms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and commercial management platforms such as CEMAR.
Understanding of rail industry standards, project delivery constraints, and operational environments.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
