Overview
A leading contractor operating within the earthworks, remediation, enabling works and infrastructure sectors is seeking an Estimator to join its growing pre-construction team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the pricing and tendering of major earthworks, remediation and enabling works projects across the UK. Working closely with operational and commercial teams, you will be responsible for developing accurate estimates, reviewing technical information and helping to shape project delivery strategies from tender stage through to contract award.
This position would suit either an experienced Estimator or an Engineer, Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor with strong earthworks exposure looking to transition into a pre-construction role.
Key Responsibilities
• Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings and contract requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for earthworks, remediation and enabling works projects.
• Analyse cut and fill requirements, earthworks balances and material movement strategies.
• Review site investigation reports, remediation strategies and technical information.
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors, suppliers and specialist contractors.
• Carry out site visits and attend pre-tender and client meetings.
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities and value engineering options.
• Develop construction methodologies and pricing strategies.
• Liaise closely with operational, engineering and commercial teams throughout the tender process.
• Support bid submissions, presentations and post-tender negotiations.
• Assist with project handovers following successful contract awards.
Skills and Experience Required
• Previous experience within estimating, engineering, surveying or quantity surveying.
• Strong understanding of earthworks, enabling works or civil engineering projects.
• Good knowledge of cut and fill operations, bulk excavation and material movement.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Commercial awareness and strong numerical skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
• Earthworks experience.
• Remediation experience.
• Brownfield redevelopment exposure.
• Enabling works experience.
• Infrastructure or heavy civils background.
• Understanding of volumes, mass haul diagrams and earthworks balancing.
• Experience reviewing site investigation reports and remediation strategies.
• Knowledge of machine control, GPS models or survey outputs.
• HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar.
