About the Role
I’m working with a well-established and growing Groundworks Contractor based in South Somerset, who are looking to appoint an experienced Works Manager to oversee operations across multiple residential and commercial groundwork projects.
This is a key leadership role, ideal for someone with a strong site background who’s ready to step up or already operating at this level.
Role Overview
As Works Manager, you’ll take responsibility for coordinating site teams, plant, and resources across multiple jobs, ensuring projects run efficiently, safely, and to programme. This is a hands-on role working closely with the Contracts Manager, Engineers, and Site Supervisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing multiple sites, ensuring work is carried out to a high standard
- Managing site teams, including foremen, operatives, and subcontractors
- Coordinating labour, plant, and materials to meet project demands
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company procedures
- Supporting project planning and reporting progress to senior management
- Acting as the key point of contact between site teams and head office
Requirements
- Proven background in groundworks/civil engineering, ideally in a supervisory or managerial role
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Good knowledge of groundwork methods, plant, and equipment
- Ability to manage multiple sites and prioritise workloads
- Full UK driving licence is essential
- SSSTS/SMSTS and relevant health & safety qualifications desirable
