Design Manager – Drywall

Hill & Hill Recruitment Ltd

Want to step away from the drawing board and actually lead?

This is your chance to take ownership of a growing design team, shape how it operates, and work with the freedom and flexibility most subcontractors do not offer.

This opportunity is being offered on a permanent basis with all the associated benefits, such as 25 days annual leave, travel reimbursed, and a three month notice period either way once you have passed probation.

The golden egg? You can do this through CIS, limited company, or PAYE.

Your money, you decide.

Eighteen months ago, my favourite client in the drylining market decided to go full design and build with BIM capabilities. No easing into the market or dipping their toes in the water, just diving in head first.

A massive risk, but with risk comes reward and opportunity, and that is what happens when you work for a company that has more entrepreneurial spirit than Steve Jobs.

We are partnered together to build this design team and therefore they are looking for two technical Design Managers who understand how drywall is built. You need to have a background in technical detailing for drylining, but do not worry, this role will not involve too much drawing. It is very much a management position.

Managing tier one clients, heading up design meetings, making decisions with conviction, and managing a team of technical CAD and Revit technicians.

So if you are currently doing both, this is your chance to get off the drawing board and do what you do best. Manage.

This is a huge opportunity to grow a fast evolving design department, have a real impact on it, and use your technical expertise to showcase what you can do. Do not be under any illusion though, this is not yet a well-oiled machine, and you will need to take the rough with the smooth.

In addition, you can work from home. You will need to go to site once a week, but you will be given the freedom and flexibility to manage your time as you see fit. Fancy working in the office because it is lonely at home four days a week? No problem, you do you. A site presence is required, and the rest is up to you.

Remember the opportunity I mentioned about working for an entrepreneurial and enterprising company? Well, freedom and flexibility are it, along with the chance to make your mark and make changes to the process and function of the design department. You see something that you think can be done better? They will listen.

This drylining subcontractor hires the right people and then gets out of your way so you can do your job.

You need to understand drywall, this is non-negotiable. The technical elements of design for drylining projects, including compliance, fire safety, and the ever changing regulations, are a must. You will ideally be highly proficient in CAD and also be able to navigate Revit.
