Principal Bridge Engineer

Role Summary 
Experienced Senior / Principal Engineer providing technical leadership to deliver defined packages of bridge and structural engineering work. Accountable for quality, programme, and technical oversight within a multi-disciplinary team. 

Key Responsibilities 

Lead delivery of small to medium work packages (inspection, assessment, design, or renewal schemes) to programme and budget 
Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports 
Mentor and guide junior engineers; support capability within the team 
Act as a key interface with clients and internal disciplines 
Ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and governance processes 
Contribute to planning, risk management, and commercial awareness on projects Required Experience & Skills 

Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) 
Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE) 
Strong background in bridge/structures design, assessment, or asset management 
Demonstrable experience leading technical delivery of projects 
Proficient in relevant design codes, analysis methods, and reporting 
Effective communicator with ability to work across disciplines Desirable 

Experience working with Local Authority or rail-related structures 
Familiarity with asset management systems and inspection regimes 
Experience acting as CRE, checker, or design lead on projects
