Health & Safety Manager – Utilities

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a major infrastructure project during a critical phase of utilities diversion works.

The successful candidate will support the safe delivery of complex utility installations, including high-risk excavation activities and works around existing live services, while working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide day-to-day Health & Safety support across multiple work sites.

* Review and advise on RAMS, permits, and safe systems of work.

* Attend client and stakeholder meetings as the project's Health & Safety representative.

* Work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.

* Monitor site activities, carrying out inspections and addressing unsafe behaviours and conditions.

* Support the safe delivery of excavation works and activities involving underground utilities.

* Assist project leadership with risk management and the promotion of a positive safety culture.

* Participate in audits, inspections, incident investigations, and the implementation of corrective actions.

* Drive continuous improvement in Health & Safety performance throughout the project.

Requirements

* Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager within the utilities or civil engineering sector.

* Previous experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.

* Strong background in utility infrastructure projects, ideally within water, gas, or electrical works.

* Excellent knowledge of excavation safety and working around live services.

* Experience supporting Health & Safety on large-scale infrastructure or civil engineering projects.

* Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

* Ability to coordinate and influence multiple subcontractors on site.

* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) is essential.

* CMIOSH or working towards chartered status is desirable
