Senior Environmental Advisor – Ground Engineering

Dewey Group is currently seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to join a prestigious and nationally significant nuclear infrastructure project based in Suffolk. This large-scale development plays a critical role in the UK’s energy future and presents an outstanding opportunity for a skilled environmental professional to work on one of the most complex and regulated projects in the country.
As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you’ll play a central role in driving environmental performance across all phases of construction. You’ll work closely with delivery teams, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders to ensure full compliance with environmental standards while supporting sustainable and responsible project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead on all environmental assurance and compliance across site operations, ensuring the project meets legislative requirements and internal standards.

Support the development and implementation of the project’s Environmental Management System (EMS), including CEMPs, risk assessments, and site-specific action plans.
*
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring to identify risks and ensure proactive mitigation.
*
Liaise with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders, including the Environment Agency, Natural England, and local authorities, managing permits and planning conditions.
*
Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and training sessions to promote environmental awareness and best practice across teams.
*
Produce high-quality reports, data analysis, and updates to senior management and the client team.
*
Support incident investigation and resolution, working with HSEQ colleagues to drive improvements and avoid recurrence.
*
Contribute to the project’s sustainability goals, supporting initiatives around biodiversity, carbon reduction, and circular economy practices.
Essential Skills & Experience:
*
Proven experience as a Senior Environmental Advisor (or similar) on large infrastructure or energy projects.
*
Strong working knowledge of UK environmental legislation, permitting, and planning systems.
*
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
*
Experience in a highly regulated environment such as nuclear, utilities, or transport.
*
Competent in developing and delivering environmental documentation and technical advice in a fast-paced site environment.
Desirable:
*
Degree-qualified in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
*
Membership of a relevant professional body (IEMA, CIWEM, etc.).
*
Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and EMS frameworks.
*
Familiarity with digital data management systems for environmental reporting and audit trails.
