Head of Fire Engineering
Job description
This role requires a blend of deep technical skills in fire engineering with the commercial skills to build a new service offering within a Leading Construction company, and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and entrepreneurially minded engineer to establish and lead a fire engineering team with the support of highly regarded, ambitious contractor with outstanding prospects for growth.
Job purpose
Establish and develop a fire engineering team to support and enable the growth of a new division, whilst leveraging the company brand to generate new work in the design, construction, maintenance, repair and repurposing of structures. Enable the client to offer fire engineering services to existing and new clients, including acting as Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act. Act as the business’ technical lead in all fire engineering matters, promoting and developing technical competence across the business
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and, implement a business plan for the fire engineering team.
* Lead business development activities to achieve revenue targets.
* Act as the business’ technical lead in all fire engineering matters.
* Act as Principal Designer duty holder under the Building Safety Act.
* Manage complex projects and both internal and external stakeholders.
* Direct and manage the production of proposals, bids and Requests for Proposals (RfP) responses.
* Design and specification of passive fire protection measures, including remedial works.
* Carrying out Fire Risk Assessments.
* Carrying out the duty holder role as Principal Designer under the Building Safety Act.
* Assessing design proposals and advising on risk.
* Leading, managing and developing a fire engineering design team.
* Working on large and complex projects across the UK.
* Interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
* Winning work, with a demonstrable network.
* Managing teams, reviewing staff performance, coaching and mentoring, driving continuous technical improvement and training initiatives across the wider business.
Candidate Profile:

Essential / Desirable Qualifications:
* BEng/BSc in Engineering (mechanical, building services, structural or similar).
* BSc or MSc in Fire Engineering advantageous.
* Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
* 10 or more years’ experience in fire engineering with a minimum of 4 years in a client-facing management role
