Managing Quantity Surveyor
Our Water contractor client are seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to help deliver a range of Thames Water AMP8 projects based out of Reading with hybrid working.
Our client are growing their team delivering AMP8 for Thames Water, to meet the greatly enlarged programme of works between 2025 and 2030. Working across projects in the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire and Thames Valley regions.
This is a great opportunity to join a team delivering on Treatment Works within this area. Projects are a mix of civil, mechanical, electrical and IC scopes and range between £2.5m to £25m in size, enhancing existing AMP7 projects.
Responsibilities
Commercial management of client contracts on a range of projects which may include complex and/or high value projects.
Establish cash performance targets, ensure the preparation of comprehensive and reliable cash forecasts, monitor results, and interpret reasons for deviation; advise and guide team on established techniques to minimise outflow of cash and maximise inflow.
Supervise and assist where necessary the subcontract tendering process on projects within remit, incl. negotiation of subcontract terms, subcontract documents, pricing schedules, scope of works.
Ensure risk management reviews are undertaken to identify and classify project risk, reconcile interaction of various risks, and propose and implement viable solutions.
Lead the development of project opportunities and defence against risks by foreseeing trends and based on sound professional experience and knowledge.
Supervise and assist the commercial team with establishing entitlements to Variations and Extensions of Time including the preparation of loss and expense claims and subsequent negotiation with the client.
Manage supply chain disputes through any form of dispute resolution process.
Supervise and assist with comprehensive change management procedures on a range of projects and report impacts of changes to the Commercial Manager / Framework Commercial Director.
Regularly review progress on schemes and advise Framework Senior Leadership Team on progress of projects within area of responsibility.
Contribute to adjudication, principles, forecast and client reporting and progress meetings / internal portfolio reviews.
Produce contractual correspondence and reports to requirements as well as supervising the preparation and presentation of these by the project commercial team.
Ensure the company's SHEQ and commercial management processes are implemented and adhered to across a range of projects.
Contribute to SLT / Business Unit Performance Reports.
Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of supply chain organisations with a view of realising future business development opportunities.
Visibility across a range of projects.
Site visits to a range of projects 3 to 4 days a week in the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, and Thames Valley regions.
Skills/experience/qualifications
Detailed understanding of costs, quantities, timescales, and contract terms for any of the projects within remit
Proven ability to critically analyse and review project information providing advice and recommendation regarding commercial aspects.
Detailed knowledge and experience of project cost management system and able to provide detailed guidance to team
Proven experience of interpreting complex project cost reports. Able to quickly and accurately correlate project data to business priorities
Detailed knowledge of the Design & Build process.
Based on extensive project experience, proven ability to assist with developing credible alternative design proposals with an understanding of the associated commercial implications.
Detailed knowledge of contracts, legislation and relevant specifications and standards.
Understands and is able to advise on complexity of concurrent delays.
Proven ability to report effectively on project progress to Senior Leadership Team.
Able to autonomously negotiate/resolve difficult final account claims to optimise commercial benefits to the business.
Able to use and apply various communication techniques to avoid and resolve disputes and to defend commercial position.
Able to use effective negotiation and influencing skills to affect positive outcomes.
Able to engage with and communicate fluently with a wide range of audiences in meetings, written work, and email.
Able to make clear and concise presentations to a predominantly internal audience.
Experience of successfully leading a Commercial Team on a range of projects.
Strong team leadership experience.
Broad water or civils / infrastructure sector experience.
