Maintenance Technician

Annual Salary: £35000 – £40000
Location: Oxford, with occasional travel to other sites
Job Type: Full-timeWe are seeking a proactive and professional Assistant Facilities Manager to join our Clients Estates Team. This role involves general maintenance and ongoing improvements of the site, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory standards, with a strong focus on health and safety. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator with a customer service focus, capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team in a busy and varied environment.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

Carry out reactive maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, electrical works, decorating, carpentry, and general maintenance.
Plan and execute minor project works in coordination with the Facilities Manager, fitting these around the school calendar.
Manage and perform preventative maintenance schedules across the estate.
Diagnose faults and perform repairs or replacements, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
Procure replacement parts and materials promptly to minimize disruption.
Supervise and coordinate external contractors on-site.
Suggest and implement upgrades or improvements to enhance the site's appearance.
Perform weekly checks (plant, vehicle, fire alarm, emergency lighting) and manage waste facilities.
Support site needs for events like parent evenings and exam setups, including portering duties.
Ensure site security during lock-up and prepare the site for handover to the next shift.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience in a similar Facilities / maintenance role, preferably within an educational environment.
Knowledge of facilities management and health and safety regulations.
Ability to manage on-site contractors and understand plant maintenance.
Proficient in carrying out health and safety risk assessments.
Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
Good communication skills and a commitment to professional development.
Desirable: IOSH Managing Safety qualification, IWFM membership, or NEBOSH General Certificate.
