CDM Principal Designer / CDM Advisor

About the Role
An established and respected multidisciplinary consultancy is looking to appoint a CDM Principal Designer / CDM Advisor to join its growing team. With a strong presence in the healthcare sector, the company also works on commercial, education, retail, residential, and mixed-use developments across the UK. Recent projects include work on a Grade I listed building, major infrastructure schemes, and developments in sensitive or high-security environments.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a professional, collaborative team that places a high value on health, safety and well-being in construction. The successful candidate will take the lead on a wide variety of projects, ensuring CDM compliance and supporting design and construction teams with proactive advice and expert guidance.

The Role
This position involves acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 regulations, leading projects and advising clients and design teams from early concept stages through to project completion. You will coordinate health and safety input, attend site and design meetings, conduct risk reviews, and ensure that pre-construction information, construction phase plans, and health & safety files are produced and maintained to the highest standard.

You’ll work closely with an established colleague in the CDM team and report to a senior manager. While some home working is supported, particularly for experienced professionals, we are ideally seeking someone who can be based in the Newcastle office and work with minimal supervision.

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with 2–5 years’ experience in a similar consultancy-based role, who holds IMaPS or CMaPS accreditation. A sound working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, a confident approach to design risk reviews, and the ability to interpret and assess technical drawings are all essential. You’ll also need to be well-organised, a strong communicator, and comfortable managing multiple projects across various sectors.

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and a full UK driving licence are required, as the role involves travel to sites nationwide. Holding a NEBOSH Construction Certificate is advantageous but not essential. RICS APC support is available if relevant.

What’s on Offer
The company offers a supportive and flexible working culture with a clear commitment to professional development and employee wellbeing. You’ll receive a competitive salary based on experience, along with benefits including a profit share scheme, company pension, 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), professional subscriptions, and provision of a laptop and smartphone. Flexible hybrid working is offered to support a healthy work-life balance.

Please note: A car allowance or private healthcare is not included with this role for more information on this role please contact David Fletcher
