Site Engineer (Nights) – Highways – Peterborough

Job Type: Contract Location: Colchester Shift: Nights (7pm-5am) Start Date: ASAP

Are you an experienced Site Engineer with a strong background in highways and available for an immediate start on night shifts?

We have an urgent requirement for a dedicated and proficient Site Engineer to join a key highways project in the Peterborough area. Working on night shifts, you will be a crucial member of the site team, responsible for ensuring all engineering works are executed accurately, safely, and in line with the project programme.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertaking all setting out, levelling, and surveying for night-time operations on the highways scheme.
Overseeing and managing all on-site engineering activities during the night shift, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Interpreting technical drawings and providing clear instruction to the workforce.
Maintaining strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, which are critical during night work.
Conducting quality control checks and inspections to ensure works meet the required standards.
Keeping accurate and detailed site records, including daily diaries, as-built surveys, and progress reports for handover to the day shift.
Resolving any technical issues or challenges that arise during the shift.
Liaising with site management, the workforce, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient progress.Required Skills and Experience:

Proven experience as a Site Engineer on UK highways projects is essential.
Previous experience working night shifts is highly advantageous.
Proficient in setting out techniques and the use of modern surveying equipment (e.g., Total Station, GPS).
Strong understanding of highways construction methodologies, specifications (e.g., DMRB, MCHW), and quality standards.
A valid CSCS card is mandatory.
Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline (e.g., HNC, HND, Degree).
Thorough knowledge of health and safety procedures, especially those pertaining to working at night and in a live traffic environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Site Engineer to secure an immediate start on a significant local infrastructure project.
