Job Title – Highways Maintenance Manager
Location – Essex
Salary – £50000 – £60000 Pro Rata 
Contract Type – Permanent, Part Time 3 days per week 

About the Role
 
Our client is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Highways Maintenance Manager to lead and manage the delivery of highways maintenance services across the Essex network.
 
In this key role, you will be responsible for overseeing planned and reactive maintenance programmes, managing contractors and in house teams, and ensuring that all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Manage relationships between stakeholders and members of the public. 
 
You will play a vital part in maintaining the safety, functionality, and sustainability of our highways infrastructure, helping us meet our obligations to the public and deliver a high-quality road network.
 
Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day highways maintenance operations, including planned works, reactive repairs, inspections, and emergency responses
Develop and implement maintenance strategies, schedules, and budgets in line with local and national standards
Lead and coordinate the work of contractors and internal delivery teams
Monitor performance, quality, and compliance with health & safety and environmental regulations
Ensure effective communication with stakeholders including residents, councillors, utilities, and other council departments
Use asset management systems and data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement
Support the development of long-term maintenance plans and contribute to infrastructure improvement initiatives About You
 
To be successful in this role, you will need:

Proven experience in highways maintenance or civil engineering, including team or contract management
Strong knowledge of highways legislation, standards, and best practices
Experience of highways maintenance minimum 5 years.
Experience of contract specifications
Experience in budget management and project delivery
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Competency in using asset management systems and Microsoft Office tools
IOSH and CSCS qualification
