Quantity Surveyor

Site QS Role

This position is within the expanding Civil Engineering and Ground Works team carrying out the Commercial functions of many diverse infrastructure projects within London and the Home Counties. Reporting to the Managing Director, the individual will be a significant part of the Surveying team dealing with a wide range of duties including the measurement of works, the preparation of both Internal Valuations and external applications for payment, supervision of the collecting and collating of site records and cost information, and the production of Key Performance Indicators and all aspects of dealing with subcontractors’ accounts.

Responsible for providing effective support to the Managing Director

The post holder will be expected to supervise and manage the effective operation of the commercial function on all his/her sites which includes (but is not limited to), the generation and submission of all contractual notifications, the monthly applications for payment and all aspects of the monthly internal valuations, forecasts and cashflow projections. The post holder will also be required to manage and deliver all aspects of the work undertaken. The role will require the following attributes: enthusiasm, commitment (particularly to the client’s objectives), attention to detail, organise workload, meet tight deadlines, work unsupervised on tasks set by the Managing Director, think on their feet, problem solve, ask questions, adapt to new practises and part their experience leading to better working practice.

Main Responsibilities

· The generation, substantiation, pricing and collation of Variations or Adds/Omits

· Supervising the generation and collation of the quantities within Bills of Quantities or Pricing Schedules for tenders or subcontract enquiries

· Measurement from the tender/contract drawings

· During the first week of each month, supervising the production of record drawings detailing actual site progress

· Pricing of Bills of Quantities or Pricing Schedules for tenders

· Ensuring that Contract Notices, Early Warning Notifications and/or Compensation Event Notifications are generated and submitted to the client in accordance with the contract

· Ensuring monthly production of a schedule of materials on site for inclusion in the application

· Ensuring monthly production of a schedule of materials off site and vesting certificate for inclusion in the application

· Ensuring the co-ordination and collation of weekly progress photographs of work on site

· The production and submission of a monthly application for payment in accordance with the contract

· The production of a monthly Internal Valuation accurately reflecting the value of work completed to the period end

· The production of monthly Valuation Reports and the input of the appropriate values on COINS

· The production and distribution of Contract Review meeting minutes

· All aspects of administering subcontracted work including initial enquiry, comparison production and distribution, draft of subcontract order documentation, terms and conditions, placement of order and ensuring that the subcontractor executes the order document before commencing work

· Preparation of the initial cashflow projection

· Ensuring COINS updated with information such as expected payments, certificates and payment date

· Preparation of the Project Forecast within 5 weeks of commencement on site and updating on a monthly basis thereafter

· Monitoring of weekly costs comparing with the forecast and reporting divergences

· Any other duties as may be required by the demands of the role

Desirable Skills & Experience

· At least a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or a related field, extensive experience in the industry, a professional qualification like MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is highly desirable.

· Proven Technical experience/ knowledge with IT and computers (Microsoft packages/COINS/Adobe)

· Good understanding of working as part of a larger team

· Personal/ soft skills: communication/organisation/meticulous attention to detail

· As a prospective Site Quantity Surveyor, we would need to be satisfied that, just as important as any previous civils contracting experience, the candidate has the enthusiasm to work as part of a team and is eager to learn

· CSCS Card required

· Experience of working with all aspects of ground works including but not limited to Site Clearance & Demolition, Retaining Wall Installations, Bulk Earthworks & Site Remediations, Enabling Works, Foul/Surface Water Drainage Install Streetworks Ducting & External Services, Hard Landscaping, Foundations & RC Works, Utilities, Paving, External works (soft and hard landscaping), roads, bridges preferred.

· Starting salary will pay upto £70K per annum depending on experience, with a 3 month probation of working in the role

· 37.5 hour week. Monday – Fridqy, 08.30am to 5.30pm (1 hour lunch)

· 26* days holiday per annum. Please note, there is an annual Christmas shutdown, staff are required to hold days from their entitlement for this period. (*Plus 8 days Bank Holidays)
