Senior Planner – Substation HVDC Infrastructure Power Projects
Location: West Midlands (Coventry)
Salary: £75,000 – £80,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor for a Senior Planning Engineer to join their expanding Energy division. This is a prime opportunity to join a high-performing team delivering substation and major energy infrastructure projects across the UK.
The Role
This is an exceptional chance to take ownership of planning activities on major energy projects as a Senior Planning Engineer, particularly within the transmission and distribution sector. The role will focus on supporting substation works for key clients, including National Grid, with full project lifecycle involvement from tender through to project close.
As a Senior Planner, you'll be a crucial part of the pre-construction and delivery teams, contributing directly to the development and management of integrated project schedules. You'll also interface regularly with client teams, supporting strategic planning across a growing national portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6
Produce fully logic-linked programmes at all stages of the project lifecycle
Engage with delivery teams and integrate site constraints into robust programmes
Support stakeholder meetings and client presentations
Conduct regular progress updates and maintain accurate planning reports
Implement schedule change control processes and impact assessments
Support risk identification and programme workshopsIdeal Background
We are seeking candidates with a solid planning background in the infrastructure or energy sectors, ideally with hands-on experience supporting substation, transmission, or distribution projects. A strong understanding of programme development, scheduling tools, and project interfaces within regulated utility environments is essential.
Essential:
Extensive project planning experience with a principal contractor, ideally on projects delivered for National Grid, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), or other major UK utility clients
Expert in Oracle Primavera P6 (Critical Path Method scheduling)
Strong understanding of project lifecycle planning (from tender to close-out)
A degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred. Candidates with an HNC or equivalent qualification will also be considered, provided they have demonstrable relevant industry experience.PLEASE NOTE
