We are a leading MEP construction company based in Wolverhampton, delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical, and plumbing solutions across the UK. With a strong portfolio of commercial, residential, and industrial projects, we are looking to expand our team with a dedicated and experienced Lead Document Controller to streamline document processes and maintain project compliance.
Role Overview
As the Lead Document Controller, you will oversee the document control function across multiple projects, ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient management of all technical documentation and project records. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to maintain structured document workflows and ensure compliance with industry and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the document control system across all MEP projects using software such as Aconex, Viewpoint, or SharePoint.
* Maintain project documentation including drawings, specifications, RFI logs, technical submissions, O&M manuals, and reports.
* Establish and enforce document control procedures and naming conventions across teams.
* Control the issue and receipt of documents, ensuring accurate distribution to internal and external stakeholders.
* Liaise with design and engineering teams to ensure version control and document accuracy.
* Train and support project teams in document control processes and systems.
* Perform regular audits to ensure document quality and completeness.
* Provide reports on document status and workflow performance to senior management.
* Ensure full compliance with ISO standards and company QA/QC procedures.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Document Controller in the construction industry (MEP background preferred).
* Strong knowledge of document control software (e.g., Aconex, Viewpoint, 4Projects, Asite).
* Familiarity with BIM protocols and construction drawings/document formats.
* Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Strong communication and leadership abilities.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Knowledge of UK construction standards, health & safety, and compliance requirements.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Desirable Qualifications
* HNC/HND in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
* CSCS Card (or willingness to obtain).
* Training in ISO 9001 quality management systems
