A leading data centre developer delivering refurbishment and upgrade programmes across Europe is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Manager to oversee the delivery of design solutions on live and legacy data centre facilities.
This role is open to professionals based in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, or France and involves occasional travel to active sites across Europe. Both freelance and permanent options are available.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage electrical design packages for critical infrastructure refurbishments across Tier II–IV data centres.
* Coordinate with internal engineering teams, design consultants, and construction contractors to ensure cohesive and buildable design strategies.
* Review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation in line with client requirements and phasing constraints.
* Ensure compliance with relevant European and international design standards (e.g. IEC, EN 50600, Uptime Institute).
* Conduct site condition surveys and develop upgrade solutions for systems such as LV distribution, standby power, UPS, and containment.
* Drive value engineering and constructability assessments to support efficient delivery.
* Engage directly with FM teams, commissioning agents, and end clients to align designs with operational and future-state needs.
* Provide technical support to procurement and commercial functions during scope and vendor development.
* Contribute to design risk, HAZOP, and DfMA reviews.
Candidate Requirements:
* Based in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, or France, with the right to work in the EU.
* Electrically qualified with 5+ years of experience managing electrical design on data centre or mission-critical projects.
* Strong understanding of refurbishment in operational environments and complex phasing.
* Skilled in leading multi-stakeholder design coordination meetings and technical reviews.
* Knowledge of EU and international electrical standards and regulations.
* Proficient in working with BIM, Revit, and other coordination tools is beneficial.
* Able to travel for occasional site visits across Europe.
