Senior Engineer – Civil Infrastructure | Kent
Initial site lead for major roads and S278 works
We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Engineer to take a key role in the early stages of a major infrastructure project based in Kent. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership from day one, acting as the sole site representative for the main contractor during the initial phase of works.
You will be overseeing a specialist subcontractor responsible for roadworks, Section 278 (S278) highways works, and associated traffic management. Your role will be critical in driving quality, safety, and compliance throughout the delivery of this important phase.
Key Responsibilities

Act as the main contractor’s on-site lead engineer from the start of the project
*
Oversee and coordinate subcontractor activities on roads and S278 scope of works
*
Ensure strict compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and site procedures
*
Monitor and manage subcontractor’s RAMS, traffic management plans, and method statements
*
Lead Quality Assurance/Quality Control efforts, including inspections, testing and handover documentation
*
Report progress, issues, and risks to the project team and client stakeholders
*
Maintain effective communication with local authorities, utilities, and third parties as required
*
Drive best practice on temporary works, permit systems, and compliance with CDM regulations
Requirements
*
Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Site Engineer on civil engineering or infrastructure projects
*
Strong knowledge of S278 works, highways, and road construction methodology
*
Solid understanding of QA/QC procedures, RAMS, and traffic management requirements
*
Confident working independently and representing the main contractor on site
*
Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills
*
SMSTS, CSCS (Engineer or Manager level), and First Aid certificates preferred
*
Full UK driving licence
