M&E Quantity Surveyor – Somerset

Avolon M&E currently have an exciting opportunity with a Tier 1 contractor for an experienced QS to join their team in Somerset.

Our client is leading on a major project with an expected remaining duration of 4 years.

The successful candidate will possess relevant qualifications, be both mechanically and electrically biased, and ideally have worked on major projects previously.

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience.

Employment type: Full-time with permanent or long-term contract options available, depending on the individual.

The position:

The QS will be expected to be site or office based with regular travel to and from site due to the dynamic nature of the project design.

Initial responsibilities will include cost planning, pre-con and cost work based out of an office separate to site in the village of Pill.

Ideally, the QS will possess mechanical, electrical and major project experience, however relevant experience in the industrial or nuclear sectors will also be considered.

This is a large, dynamic project working for a reputable Tier 1 contractor and as such our client is looking for someone who can start immediately.

Key Responsibilities:

* Manage the commercial aspects of M&E packages from procurement to final account.

* Work closely with project managers, design teams, and M&E subcontractors to ensure accurate cost control.

* Prepare valuations, forecasts, cost reports, and tender documentation.

* Conduct site measurements, variations, and manage change control processes.

* Negotiate subcontractor contracts and monitor performance.

* Ensure all commercial reporting and governance aligns with company and client requirements.

* Support the senior commercial lead on contractual matters and risk management.

Requirements:

* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor and experience working on mechanical & electrical projects.

* Background with a main contractor, ideally Tier 1.

* Strong knowledge of MEP systems, cost planning, and procurement.

* Familiar with JCT/NEC contracts.

* Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.

* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

* Proficient with cost management software and Excel
