Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Site Manager (Sub-Contractor) to join the delivery team on a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Scotland.
This is a hands-on role suited to a site leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent stakeholder management skills, and a proven track record in HV works, energisation processes, and G99 grid connection compliance.
You will play a central role in coordinating, managing safety, and ensuring the successful delivery of all site operations – from civil works and installation through to commissioning and grid connection.
Core Responsibilities
Site Management & Coordination
* Take full responsibility for site activities, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of all construction and electrical works.
* Oversee site teams and subcontractors, ensuring quality and adherence to programme timelines.
* Maintain daily site records, toolbox talks, and site diaries.
* Report to the Project Manager with regular updates on progress, issues, risks, and resource requirements.
HV & Electrical Oversight
* Supervise all High Voltage (HV) installation works, including cable laying, jointing, and terminations (11kV or 33kV).
* Ensure compliance with DNO specifications and internal QA procedures.
* Manage and support the safe commissioning and testing of electrical systems.
Energisation & G99 Compliance
* Lead the site's energisation process, liaising with DNOs and client-side engineers.
* Ensure all G99 testing and documentation is completed, witnessed, and signed off appropriately.
* Prepare and submit all documentation and checklists required for grid acceptance.
HSE & Quality Assurance
* Enforce strict compliance with CDM regulations, site-specific RAMS, and all health & safety procedures.
* Conduct site inductions, review risk assessments and method statements.
* Ensure that all incidents, near misses, and non-conformances are properly reported and actioned.
Experience & Requirements
Essential:
* Demonstrable experience managing large-scale BESS or renewable energy sites in the UK.
* Strong background in HV works, energisation, and G99 grid connection procedures.
* SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certified.
* In-depth understanding of UK health & safety legislation and CDM regulations.
* Experience managing multiple subcontractors and coordinating trades.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Valid UK driving licence and flexibility to work across multiple locations.
Preferred:
* HV Authorised Person (AP) or SAP experience/qualification.
* Electrical or engineering background (NVQ, HNC, or equivalent).
* Previous experience on BESS or solar + storage projects.
