Senior Mechanical Estimator and Senior Electrical Estimator
Location: London WC1X 8NX
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 per annum (DOE)
Position Summaries
Mechanical Estimator
Lead all aspects of cost estimation for mechanical scopes including HVAC, piping, ductwork, plumbing, and fire protection. Work closely with design, procurement, and project teams to deliver profitable, competitive tenders ranging from minor refurbishments to large-scale installations.
Electrical Estimator
Responsible for detailed cost estimating for LV/HV electrical systems across commercial, infrastructure, and industrial projects. Manage tender preparation, subcontractor engagement, and cost strategies with oversight of junior estimators.
Key Responsibilities (Both Roles)

Analyse technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities.

Perform accurate quantity take-offs, labour, material, and equipment cost assessments.
*
Solicit, review, and collate supplier/subcontractor quotes.
*
Apply overheads, margins, contingencies, and risk allowances.
*
Benchmark actual vs. estimated costs to improve estimating accuracy.
*
Mentor junior estimators and enforce quality control.
*
Present and defend estimates to internal teams and clients.
*
Conduct site visits to validate scopes and cost assumptions.
*
Track market intelligence on labour rates, materials, and regulations.
Required Experience & Qualifications
*
At least 5 years’ experience in mechanical or electrical estimating within M&E, construction, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
*
Proven track record estimating projects from roughly £200k up to multi-million-pound contracts.
*
Proficiency in specialist estimating software (e.g., CostOS, Sage Estimating, Trimble/WinEst) and Excel.
*
Strong analytical, negotiation, and interpretation skills for technical documentation.
*
Relevant technical degree or HNC/HND preferred (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Construction Management).
*
Full UK driving licence preferred for site visits.
