Senior Estimator
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Estimator to join a well established civil engineering firm recently appointed as a delivery partner on a major environmental infrastructure programme in the North West. This appointment has resulted in a significant increase in workload due to a strong pipeline of successfully won tenders.
The Senior Estimator will be responsible for leading the estimation process for large scale civil engineering projects, including water, drainage, and environmental infrastructure works. This is a pivotal role that supports the company’s continued growth and success by ensuring all tenders are competitive, accurate, and submitted on time.
You will be stepping into this role following the retirement of the previous senior estimator, and you will play a key role in shaping and developing the estimating team and processes moving forward.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering projects

Analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications to identify project requirements and risks
*
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments to obtain pricing and technical information
*
Review and assess subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure value for money and compliance
*
Develop and maintain estimating databases and benchmarking tools to improve efficiency and accuracy
*
Work closely with the commercial and project management teams to ensure smooth project delivery from bid stage to completion
*
Mentor and support junior estimating staff, contributing to their development
*
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, costs, and market conditions to inform bidding strategy
*
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the commercial team
Candidate Profile
*
Proven track record as a Senior Estimator in civil engineering or heavy civil construction, ideally within water or environmental infrastructure
*
Strong commercial acumen with excellent attention to detail
*
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tenders simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines
*
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, able to build strong working relationships internally and externally
*
Proficient in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Office suite
*
Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team
