Quantity Surveyor
Our client is a long-established, family-run, multi-disciplinary building contractor with a proud history dating back to 1922. Based in Bishop’s Stortford, they have built a strong reputation for reliability, transparency, and high standards of delivery. They serve both public and private sector clients across a broad geographic area, including London, the South East, the Home Counties, and more recently, the Midlands.
Due to continued growth and a healthy pipeline of projects, our client is seeking an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to contribute to the commercial success of a well-respected contractor delivering impactful, high-quality projects.
About the Role
The successful candidate will support the commercial management of a variety of construction and refurbishment projects. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and supply chain partners to ensure effective cost control, accurate reporting, and timely project delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with tendering and the preparation of budgets
*
Monitor project costs and manage financial forecasting
*
Support subcontractor procurement and contract management
*
Prepare and manage interim valuations and final accounts
*
Provide cost advice and value engineering input
*
Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial requirements
*
Maintain accurate records and support cost reporting
*
Contribute to risk management and cost control initiatives
Project Types & Workstreams
Our client delivers a wide range of works across domestic and commercial environments. Typical project types include:

Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) works
*
Front Entrance Door (FED) and communal doorset replacements
*
Estate regeneration schemes
*
Kitchen and bathroom refurbishments
*
External repairs and maintenance
*
Window and door replacements
*
Internal and external refurbishment works
*
Retrofit and adaptation works
*
Roofing replacements
*
Mechanical & Electrical installations, upgrades, and adaptations
Experience within these workstreams is desirable but not essential.
Candidate Requirements
*
Minimum 3 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry
*
Sound understanding of JCT contracts and commercial processes
*
Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
*
Competent in Microsoft Excel and commercial management tools
*
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
*
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
