Sub Agent – Earthworks

Are you an experienced and proactive Sub Agent looking for your next challenging highways project? We are seeking a skilled Freelance Sub Agent to join our team on a significant £200 million highways scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile infrastructure development.

The Role:

As a Sub Agent, you will be instrumental in the successful delivery of critical sections of this major highways project. Your expertise will be particularly vital in managing and overseeing complex earthworks operations and dewatering solutions. This will involve:

Site Supervision & Management: Overseeing day-to-day site activities, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and safety regulations.

Earthworks Management: Leading and coordinating significant earthworks packages, including cut and fill operations, material management, compaction, and ground stabilisation.

Dewatering Expertise: Implementing and managing effective dewatering strategies to control groundwater levels, ensuring stable working conditions and mitigating risks associated with water ingress.

Programme Management: Monitoring progress against programme, identifying potential delays, and implementing corrective actions.

Quality Assurance: Ensuring all works are completed to the highest quality standards, conducting inspections and maintaining comprehensive records.

Health & Safety: Promoting a strong safety culture on site, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all H&S legislation.

Subcontractor Management: Liaising with and managing subcontractors, ensuring their work aligns with project objectives.

Reporting: Providing regular progress reports to the Senior Agent/Project Manager.

About You:

Proven experience as a Sub Agent on large-scale highways or civil engineering projects (ideally £50m+).

Demonstrable expertise in managing significant earthworks packages.

Strong understanding and practical experience with various dewatering techniques (e.g., wellpointing, sump pumping, deep wells).

Excellent knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and relevant legislation.

Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Committed to health, safety, and environmental best practices.

Relevant CSCS card and other industry-standard qualifications.
