The Opportunity
We are pleased to be representing a highly regarded, independent multi-disciplinary consultancy as they continue to expand their London office. Renowned for their work across healthcare, higher education, major estates, and public realm sectors, our client has established a strong presence within the UK’s built environment.
As part of their growth strategy, they are now seeking an experienced Principal Designer (BSA) to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a high-performing, collaborative environment alongside project management, building surveying, and design professionals on a wide variety of exciting schemes—including refurbishments, adaptations, and new-build projects.

The Role
This key position will see you take ownership of design risk management and regulatory compliance under the Building Safety Act (BSA) and CDM Regulations, across a diverse and meaningful project portfolio. You will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant design solutions across all RIBA stages.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a technically skilled individual who ideally comes from an architecture, surveying, or construction management background and has operated within a consultancy environment.
Key Requirements:
Professional Qualifications: Degree in construction, architecture, engineering, or surveying. Chartership or working towards (e.g. RICS, RIBA, CIOB, APS) is highly desirable.
Experience: Demonstrable experience in the Principal Designer role under BSA and CDM, ideally within a consultancy setting.
Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of health and safety legislation, building regulations, and design risk management across the RIBA plan of work.
Sector Experience: Exposure to complex schemes in healthcare, education, and other public sector environments.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
Digital Proficiency: Competence in digital tools used for design risk management and documentation.
