Retrofit Building Surveyor
Although the role is Home Based, you will be required to travel across the central west region of England. This includes regular travel in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Coventry and surrounding localities.
Here at Stonewater, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Retrofit Building Surveyor to join our Sustainability and Retrofit Team to cover the central west region of the UK. You will join a dedicated team to deliver safe, affordable and quality homes to people that need them most and play a critical part in delivering Stonewater’s Homes strategy and decarbonisation targets.
We are seeking technical involvement from inception to completion from a qualified and experienced construction professional to support the delivery and handover of compliant right first time retrofit works and decarbonisation projects. As our Retrofit Building Surveyor, you will play a key role in providing technical input with a direct focus on quality assurance of the installation of retrofit measures (i.e. heating, windows, doors, wall insulation) and undertake property surveys, inspections and report on outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
You will ensure retrofit projects align with PAS: 2030 and PAS: 2035 for Trustmark accreditation and meet DESNZ requirements for funding and you will possess strong knowledge of current Building Regulations and statutory Health & Safety standards and be proficient in diagnosing building defects and making recommendations for their resolution.
You will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including contractors, consultants, customers and other stakeholders contributing to the retrofit agenda and future decarbonisation net zero carbon targets.
The ideal candidate will:
* Be qualified and an experienced surveyor educated to minimum HNC/HND in building studies or a related subject.
* Have the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to avoid substandard retrofitting and the endemic performance gap.
* Have experience surveying diverse domestic property types including, traditional and historic buildings.
* Have proven experience as a Building Surveyor within planned investment projects, complex refurbishment and/or large domestic improvements relating to energy efficiency.
* Be confident interpreting technical designs and ensuring contractors install energy efficiency measures in accordance with retrofit designs, works specifications and manufacturer’s instructions providing quality assurance.
* Be able to accurately diagnose a wide range of common and complex whole-house building defects (e.g., damp, mould and condensation, structural movement, roof failures, thermal bridging, drainage issues, etc.) and determine root cause.
* Be able to carry out full property inspections, including structural elements, building envelope, services, and internal fabric, using both visual inspection and investigative techniques but also wider issues of legal and regulatory matters, ongoing maintenance and durability.
* Be able to identify non-compliance with relevant standards such as Building Regulations, Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), Decent Homes Standard, fire safety legislation and other statutory or regulatory benchmarks.
* Have excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
* Have excellent IT skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Housing Management systems and the use of on-site tablets/mobile technology.
Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check, satisfactory references and possession of a valid Right to Work document.
