An established civil engineering subcontractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to take ownership of complex groundworks and RC frame packages on projects across London and the South East. This role is best suited to a proven subcontractor-level PM who understands the pace and demands of Tier 2 delivery and can operate confidently in a client-facing environment.
You’ll be joining a high-performing team delivering infrastructure-heavy projects involving deep drainage, water works, shafts, utility diversions, and reinforced concrete structures. The business has a strong pipeline of ongoing and upcoming works and requires someone who can hit the ground running and drive delivery to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of site delivery for groundworks and RC frame packages, from mobilisation to handover.

Coordinate works involving drainage systems, ducting, water-related infrastructure, pump stations, and enabling works.
*
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and principal contractors; attend meetings, give updates, and manage commercial and programme expectations.

Lead site teams including engineers, site managers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to programme.

Monitor progress, flag risks or delays, and work closely with planning and commercial teams to maintain delivery targets.
*
Ensure compliance with health & safety standards, quality assurance procedures, and project documentation.

Manage site records, method statements, temporary works coordination, and interface with specialist subcontractors or utilities teams.
Requirements:

Extensive experience as a Project Manager delivering groundworks, RC frame, and civil packages for Tier 2 subcontractors.
*
In-depth knowledge of deep drainage, shaft construction, water mains, and associated infrastructure.
*
Comfortable acting as the face of the business on-site, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong technical background, able to review drawings, solve problems on-site, and manage complex interfaces.

Valid CSCS (Black or Gold), SMSTS, and First Aid certifications required.

Temporary works knowledge preferred. Engineering background advantageous.
*
Must be able to travel to sites across Greater London and surrounding counties.
