A leading architectural practice is currently seeking an experienced CDM Principal Designer to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a key role in delivering design safety, managing compliance, and supporting project teams across a wide range of exciting developments.
You’ll lead on all CDM 2015 responsibilities, working closely with clients, consultants, and in-house teams to ensure best practices are applied from concept through to completion.
🔧 Key Responsibilities:

Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 across multiple projects.
*
Work with design teams and participate in the preparation of design proposals including budgetary and resourcing aspects, demonstrating awareness of time issues, environmental concerns and client requirements and compliance with the CDM 2015 regulations.

Provide expert advice on health & safety in design during pre-construction.
*
Instigate and maintain a project H&S risk Register for the Pre-construction phase including any supporting diagrams/drawings required, collating all risks from all consultants into a single document.

Develop and maintain Pre-Construction Information Packs and Health & Safety Files.
*
Coordinate risk management, including producing design risk registers.
*
Review contractor Construction Phase Plans and liaise with enforcement bodies where necessary.
*
Conduct site visits and chair H&S design meetings.
*
Mentor junior team members and help develop internal CDM tools and templates.
*
Attend client and design team meetings representing the practice as CDM lead.
✅ What We’re Looking For:
*
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a relevant architectural or construction role.
*
Proven experience acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015.
*
Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, design standards, and building regulations.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is advantageous.
*
Understanding of cladding systems and the Golden Thread of building safety information.
*
Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
🎓 Desirable Qualifications & Memberships:
*
RIBA or ARB registration (preferred, not essential).
*
APS membership (IMaPS, CMaPS, or FaPS).
*
IOSH or IIRSM membership.
*
Willingness to undertake further professional development and training if required.
