Company Overview:
We are recruiting for a major civils project at Gatwick Airport (CHN Scheme) part of the overall decarbonisation scheme, which is set to last until 2029.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee the early pre-construction phase, with the intention of continuity through to project completion in 2029.
This is an exciting long-term opportunity to play a key leadership role in a high-profile, live airport environment.
Role Overview:
The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the early intrusive survey works, managing multi-disciplinary subcontractors, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. The role requires hands-on leadership during pre-construction and a clear pathway to continued project leadership through the construction phase.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee and manage early survey works including:
* Intrusive surveys of pipework in NT Services Subways and ST Service Subway.
* Direct supervision of multiple subcontractors across a variety of disciplines.
* Develop and maintain project schedules, risk registers, and cost plans for early works packages.
* Lead and uphold stringent Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards at all times.
* Manage the permitting process and ensure compliance with all Gatwick Airport operational protocols.
* Act as the principal point of contact for the client, stakeholders, and internal teams.
* Support procurement of pre-construction packages within tight timescales (4-week horizon).
* Maintain continuity through to the main construction phase (running until end of 2029).
Essential Requirements:
* Proven track record as a Senior Project Manager in civil engineering, ideally within an airport or similarly regulated, live operational environment.
* Demonstrable experience managing multi-disciplinary civils works, including surveys, utilities, and underground infrastructure.
* Strong knowledge of construction safety, CDM regulations, and permit-controlled environments.
* Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and interface with client teams effectively.
* Excellent planning, organisational, and leadership skills.
* Commercially aware with experience in budget and cost control.
Desirable:
* Previous Gatwick Airport experience, with knowledge of local systems and permitting processes.
* SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold), and relevant H&S certifications.
* Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and consultants.
