Head of Building Safety – Property Services

Newlon Housing Trust is a successful charitable housing association and one of the major providers of new affordable housing in north and east London.
Supporting the Property Services Director and wider Executive Team, you will be responsible for the development and leadership of the Building Safety Team. You will ensure that all fire and building safety duties within all Newlon’s relevant buildings are effectively carried out and are managed and maintained in accordance with the requirements of the Building Safety Act. You will also be responsible for reporting on compliance and ensuring that all necessary approvals/certifications for buildings from all relevant regulatory bodies are received and in order.
With a degree, or equivalent, in Building Surveying, Construction, Engineering or similar, you will be a member of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, RICS, CIOB, RIBA, CIBSE) and have a Health and Safety or Fire qualification. Proven substantial experience of managing compliance or health and safety related services for residential buildings, covering at least three or more different compliance areas is essential, along with experience of contract management, working across all our residential buildings on fire safety matters with a focus on the high rise buildings in scope of the Building Safety Act and knowledge of the current housing-related legislation of compliance work streams. You will also have first-class management and leaderships skills, with the ability to manage complex budgets and provide clear and concise technical advice and reports. The post requires someone who can demonstrate they can promote and develop the service with our residents at the centre of any key decisions made. You will also be expected to promote the service internally with colleagues and with external stakeholders such as the LFB and other housing providers to demonstrate the forward thinking approach Newlon takes to Building and Fire Safety matters.
