Estimator / Building Surveyor – Commercial Refurbishment, Reactive Projects & Quoted Works
Hybrid Role | Offices in Sutton, South London | Works across the South East | Commercial (Retail, Hospitality) Environments | £50–60K + Car / Car Allowance & Package.
Overview:
We are actively recruiting for an experienced Estimator / Surveyor to join a growing contractor delivering commercial refurbishment and quoted project works across the retail, leisure, and hospitality sectors.
This is a hybrid role, combining surveying, estimating, and quoting responsibilities. You’ll attend live sites to scope works, price small to medium internal refurbishments, quoted works or large emergency repairs (typically £1K–£500K+), and liaise with clients from initial enquiry through to quote submission and follow-up.
Package Summary:
* Job Title: Estimator / Building Surveyor – Commercial Refurbishment & Quoted Works
* Location: Sutton office (hybrid role with home working + site visits across London & Home Counties)
* Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (depending on experience) + Company car & fuel card or car allowance.
* Status: Permanent, Full-Time
* Sectors: Retail, Leisure, Hospitality, Commercial Interiors
* Projects: Refurbishment, repair, and minor works (typically £1K–£500K+)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Survey commercial premises to scope internal refurbishment and reactive project works.
* Prepare detailed quotes and cost estimates for internal refurbishments, repairs, and small works
* Price works including carpentry, plumbing, flooring, ceilings, decoration, and general building.
* Liaise directly with clients to confirm scope, clarify details, and provide timely quotations.
* Follow up on submitted quotes, answer queries, and build long-term relationships with repeat clients.
* Work closely with project managers and operational staff to ensure handover accuracy.
* Attend pre-start meetings, technical site visits, and client briefings where required.
* Manage your own pipeline of enquiries, prioritising based on deadlines and business needs.
* Support procurement and supply chain performance feedback post-project.
* Maintain accurate estimating files and ensure compliance with company processes.
Requirements:
* Proven experience as an Estimator or Building Surveyor in commercial refurbishment or internal projects
* Confident surveying and pricing projects from £10K to £250K+
* Knowledge of building fabric and general trades (e.g. carpentry, joinery, plumbing, ceilings, decoration etc).
* Strong communication and client liaison skills – written and verbal
* Competent with estimating software, CAFM systems, Excel, and reporting tools
* Full UK driving licence and comfortable travelling to client sites as needed.
