Site Engineer / Senior Engineer – Groundworks & Main Contracting
Location: Reading, Berkshire
Salary: £45,000 – £75,000 (dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
A leading main contractor is seeking an experienced Site Engineer / Senior Engineer to support the delivery of a major construction project in Reading. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong background in groundworks and site engineering, looking to take ownership of engineering functions on a fast-paced project.
Role Overview:
As Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in the site team, helping to ensure successful planning, technical coordination and delivery of works in line with programme, quality and health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure accurate setting out and dimensional control using a range of methods and surveying instruments.

Maintain project documentation in accordance with prescribed procedures and keep clear, regular site records.
*
Measure executed works and assist in take-offs for material ordering and progress planning.
*
Supervise and monitor site safety, taking prompt action where required and promoting best practice at all times.
*
Liaise effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, the design team, and the client team.
*
Assist in the preparation, review and update of construction programmes.
*
Support the quality assurance process, ensuring high standards across all phases of work.
*
Provide mentorship to Trainee Engineers and contribute to their development.
What We’re Looking For:
*
Experience in a similar role within a main contracting environment, with particular emphasis on groundworks.
*
Proficiency in setting out and site engineering duties across large-scale projects.
*
Working knowledge of CAT & Genny equipment is preferred.
*
HNC/Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction-related field.
*
Competent with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
*
CSCS (management level), SMSTS and First Aid qualifications.
*
Full UK driving licence.
