Design & Build Technical Manager – Retrofit & Cladding (Long-Term Contract)

We're working with a specialist contractor delivering complex retrofit and façade remediation projects. They're looking to appoint a Design & Build Technical Manager on a long-term contract to take ownership of technical coordination across multiple live and upcoming schemes.

The role is primarily based in East London, with travel to Nottingham every other week for site and project meetings. Travel and accommodation will be fully covered.

This is a hands-on position where you'll lead consultant management, material approvals, compliance, and buildability reviews – ensuring projects progress smoothly from pre-construction through to handover.

Location: East London (Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 WFH)
Travel: Every other week to Nottingham – travel and accommodation fully covered

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the full technical design process from planning through to completion

Coordinate design consultants, specialist subcontractors, and temporary works designers

Review drawings for buildability, compliance, sequencing, and cost efficiency

Oversee technical approvals: materials, warranty bodies, fire regulations, and structural interfaces

Liaise closely with site, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure smooth handover

Support value engineering and programme improvements

Requirements:

Background in retrofit, cladding, façade remediation, or similar D&B project types

Proven experience within a contractor environment in a technical or design manager role

Strong working knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, and temporary works

Ability to manage technical queries, resolve design issues, and ensure compliance

Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, hands-on contractor setting
