We are currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Development Surveyor to join a Local Authority in the Nottinghamshire area. This senior role will lead on development, disposals, and valuation activities across a varied property portfolio, supporting the Council’s wider asset strategy and capital programme.
Overview of the role The Principal Development Surveyor will provide professional leadership to a team of surveyors, delivering a programme of asset disposals, development projects, and the annual valuation programme. The role will include complex negotiations, acquisitions, disposals, and advising on commercial property transactions while ensuring compliance with statutory, financial, and contractual regulations.
Responsibilities
Act as expert advisor on complex valuations, disposals, acquisitions, and negotiations.
Lead a team of professional surveyors, managing workload, performance, and development.
Support the review and rationalisation of the Council’s commercial portfolio.
Progress identified disposals from inception to completion, including feasibility, market engagement, and business case development.
Provide professional support to the Council’s annual asset valuation programme and ad hoc valuations.
Appoint and oversee consultants, ensuring delivery to Council requirements.
Contribute to budget forecasting, capital receipts, and revenue implications.
Produce reports, business cases, and briefings for senior officers and elected members.
Ensure all property within scope is safe, compliant, and managed to best practice standards.Requirements
MRICS Chartered Surveyor with Registered Valuer status.
Significant experience in property development, disposals, and valuation work.
Strong commercial awareness with proven negotiation skills.
Experience managing teams of professional surveyors.
Demonstrable experience of capital projects, acquisitions, and disposals.
Knowledge of statutory compliance, planning, building regulations, and associated property law.
Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
