The Company
We are working with a well-established main contractor delivering a diverse range of projects across the education and public sectors. With a strong reputation for quality and reliability, we are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing small works projects (up to £5m), primarily in schools and educational facilities, delivered through established framework agreements.
Role Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial aspects of projects from tender through to final account, ensuring profitability and compliance with contractual obligations. You will work closely with the project and site teams, clients, and supply chain to ensure cost efficiency and value for money.
Key Responsibilities

Manage all commercial and contractual aspects of small works projects (typically £250k – £5m).

Prepare, submit, and manage interim applications for payment and final accounts.

Procure subcontractors and suppliers, negotiate terms, and manage accounts.
*
Monitor and report on project costs, forecasts, and cash flow.
*
Manage change control, variations, and contractual claims.
*
Prepare bills of quantities, take-offs, and cost estimates.
*
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
*
Ensure compliance with framework procedures, company policies, and health & safety requirements.
Candidate Requirements
*
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with a main contractor.
*
Track record of delivering small to medium projects up to £5m, preferably in schools, education, or public sector works.
*
Good knowledge of JCT contracts (framework experience advantageous).
*
Strong commercial and financial acumen with excellent attention to detail.
*
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
*
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
*
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
*
Membership of RICS (desirable, not essential).
