RICS – Disrepair Surveyor | £60,000 | East London/Essex
MMP Consultancy are supporting our client in the recruitment of an experienced Disrepair Surveyor (RICS) . This role requires a meticulous professional with excellent technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
You will be responsible for carrying out detailed property inspections, producing accurate schedules of disrepair works, providing expert witness reports, and assisting legal professionals in the resolution of claims.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed inspections of residential and commercial properties to identify and document disrepair, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards.

Diagnose defects and provide expert recommendations to resolve Housing Condition claims.

Prepare comprehensive and accurate Schedules of Disrepair, outlining the nature, extent, and cause of defects with recommended remedial works.

Produce impartial, high-quality expert witness reports compliant with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules.

Provide clear advice to clients, including landlords, tenants, and legal representatives, on disrepair matters.

Attend site meetings, joint inspections with opposing surveyors, and court appearances as required.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, case law, and industry best practices relating to disrepair.

Potentially mentor junior surveyors or provide technical guidance within the team.

Provide expert advice on Housing Condition cases, making informed recommendations for financial settlements with legal teams.

Qualifications

Relevant surveying degree (CIOB minimum) or full membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or an equivalent professional body.

Experience

Proven experience conducting surveys and preparing Schedules of Disrepair for legal cases.

Strong knowledge of housing legislation, landlord and tenant law, and building regulations.

Demonstrable experience as an expert witness, including preparing Part 35 compliant reports.

Excellent technical knowledge of building pathology and diagnostic skills.

Familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and court processes.

Experience with disrepair software or databases (desirable).

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
