Quantity Surveyor
Quantity Surveyor Refurb & Conservation | Central London | Permanent | Immediate Start
The Role:
This is a hands-on Quantity Surveyor role where you'll be trusted to manage the commercial side of a diverse portfolio of refurbishment and conservation projects. You'll play a key role in controlling costs, issuing valuations, managing variations, and ensuring projects are delivered profitably from pre-start through to final account.
Perfect for someone who enjoys responsibility, has a strong commercial mindset, and wants to work on technically interesting projects not just measuring and ticking boxes.
The Projects:
• Refurbishment, conservation, and restoration of listed / period buildings across Central London
• Mansion blocks (Section 20 works) and high-spec commercial refurbishments
• Project values ranging from £150k£2m, with some recent projects over £23m
• Works in technically challenging, often occupied buildings with tight access / logistics
• Projects for high-profile clients including CBRE, BNP Paribas, Cushman & Wakefield
• Future focus on fewer, higher-value projects with larger budgets and complex commercial oversight
What they're looking for:
• Intermediate to senior Quantity Surveyor with a stable CV
• Commercially astute and hands-on comfortable climbing scaffolds and working alongside trades
• Experience managing valuations, variations, budgets, final accounts, and accruals
• Enjoys the craft and construction side not detached from the day-to-day works
• Experience with refurbishment, conservation, or listed buildings is advantageous but not essential
• Ambitious, team-oriented, and looking to grow into a leadership role
The Company:
This is a 30-year-old principal contractor specialising in high-quality restoration and conservation across London. Their turnover is circa £13m, and they typically manage 1618 live projects at any time.
Based in a close-knit, open-plan office, their staff including around 30 restorers, stonemasons, and 20 decorators collaborate closely on complex, technically demanding projects. Roof, M&E, and some specialist works are sub-contracted, but all management is in-house.
This is a place where experienced professionals are trusted to get on with projects, supported in their development, and encouraged to bring fresh ideas to a traditionally skilled workforce.
