Planning Manager
A leading consultancy specialising in commercial and project services is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to join their team. With a strong track record across sectors such as Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Utilities, the company is known for delivering high-quality services and long-term value to clients.
Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Planning Manager to play a key role in the delivery of a new multi-project programme in the water sector. The programme will run over the next two years and involves a portfolio of projects across the North West, representing a combined investment in the tens of millions. For the first time under AMP8, these projects will be delivered as part of a single integrated team, offering the chance to help shape delivery and establish best practice from the outset.
As Planning Manager, you will lead on programme scheduling, planning controls, and optimisation. You will work closely with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timelines are realistic, risks are managed, and delivery stays on track.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, manage, and optimise integrated schedules using Primavera and other planning software.
* Provide programme-level oversight across a portfolio of 25–30 projects, ensuring consistency and alignment.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and delivery partners.
* Monitor progress, analyse performance, and recommend corrective actions to maintain schedules.
* Support programme reporting and governance requirements, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data.
* Evaluate changes, manage baselines, and support scenario modelling/what-if analysis.
* Constructively challenge stakeholders to ensure task ownership and data quality.
Key Requirements:
* Typically 5+ years’ experience in planning, scheduling, or project controls within infrastructure, utilities, or construction.
* Degree or relevant professional/technical qualification (e.g. APM).
* Considerable experience in programme optimisation and integrated project planning.
* Good knowledge of design and build techniques and project control processes.
* Proficiency in Primavera (P6) and similar planning software.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
* Right to work in the UK (security clearance may be required depending on project).
