Civil Design Engineer

Civil and Groundworks Design Engineer
Role Purpose
Responsible for the design and coordination of all civil, structural, and groundworks
elements associated with the HV Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project,
ensuring compliance with planning, environmental, geotechnical, and structural
requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Site Investigation & Assessment
Review geotechnical surveys, topographical surveys, and site investigation reports.
Assess ground conditions, drainage, and bearing capacity for equipment foundations
and cable routes.

Design Development
Prepare and develop design drawings, specifications, and calculations for:
Foundations for battery containers, transformers, switchgear, and auxiliary
equipment.
Substation and compound civil works (bunds, fencing, access roads, drainage).
Cable trenches, ducts, and pit layouts.
Temporary works during construction.
Coordinate with structural engineers where applicable.
Compliance & Standards

Ensure designs align with UK regulations, Eurocodes, CDM regulations, and local
planning requirements.
Incorporate flood risk, drainage, and SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
requirements.
Support environmental and archaeological considerations.
Coordination & Interfaces

Work closely with electrical design engineers to coordinate cable routes, earthing,
and interfaces.
Collaborate with planning consultants, DNO/ICP, EPC contractor, and site teams.

Support subcontractor and supplier tender packages with accurate design
information.
Construction Support

Provide technical support to site teams during groundworks and civils installation.
Review contractor method statements and RAMS.
Respond to RFIs and resolve design issues on-site.

Procore Responsibilities
Upload and maintain civil and groundworks design documents and revisions in
Procore.
Manage and respond to RFIs related to civil works.
Support submittal reviews for materials (e.g., concrete, aggregates, drainage
products).
Log and track design-related issues using Procore’s coordination tools.

Key Deliverables
Civil and groundworks design drawings and specifications.
Foundation design calculations.
Drainage and flood risk design package.
Construction support drawings (temporary works, trenching layouts).
Procore-managed design package for review, approval, and issue for construction.

Skills & Experience
Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or related discipline or similar in terms of
experience.
Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE/IStructE desirable).
Experience in civil and groundworks design for energy, utilities, or infrastructure
projects.
Knowledge of geotechnical engineering and ground improvement techniques.
Familiarity with Procore (or similar CDE systems).

Strong coordination and communication skills
