Job Title: Civils Supervisor

Location: United Kingdom – national travel required

Employment Type: Self-Employed (CIS Scheme)

Hours: 50+ per week, with travel and accommodation covered

Pay Rates:

Civils Supervisor: up to £25/hr (depending on experience)

Role Overview

A leading engineering contractor is seeking either an experienced Working Civils Supervisor to deliver national civils projects across the UK. The role involves a wide range of groundwork activities, including earthworks, excavations, trenches, concreting, slab work, and associated civils tasks. Candidates must be willing to work away from home Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend work. Accommodation will be provided.

The Supervisor will take responsibility for delivering works on site while leading and supporting the operative. Together, the team will ensure all works are delivered safely, to specification, and in line with project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure all civils works comply with regulations and industry standards.

Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and enforce the use of PPE.

Maintain a safe working environment and follow risk assessments/method statements.

Supervision & Leadership

Manage direct labour and subcontractors.

Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality standards are achieved.

Provide hands-on supervision and technical guidance, working alongside other trades when required.

Project Coordination

Collaborate with senior management, engineers, and clients to plan and deliver works.

Provide daily updates on progress, material usage, and any issues via WhatsApp or site reporting tools.

Support project timelines by coordinating labour, materials, and site requirements.

Training & Development

Mentor junior staff and promote best practice.

Support ongoing professional development, ensuring qualifications and skills remain up to date.

Materials & Inventory Management

Oversee the ordering and availability of materials in line with project deadlines.

Work closely with management to ensure commercial efficiency.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Minimum 5 years' experience in civils/groundworks.

Strong knowledge of civils standards, regulations, and safety practices.

Proven ability to read site drawings and deliver works to specification.

Practical experience in excavation, concreting, and groundwork operations.

Leadership and team management skills.

Excellent problem-solving ability.

Desirable:

Experience within the renewable energy or power generation sector.

Qualifications & Certifications

Excavator, dumper, and roller tickets (Supervisor & Operative).

SMSTS or SSSTS (Supervisor, or willingness to complete).

Valid CSCS card.

Full UK driving licence.

First Aid at Work (or willingness to complete).

Confined Space certification (or willingness to complete).

Additional Information

Applicants must have permanent and unrestricted right to live and work in the UK (no sponsorship available).

Must be able to travel and work across the UK as required.

Own transport is required; mileage reimbursed at 25p per mile.

Must be competent with site reporting software (e.g., iAuditor, Microsoft Office).

Work will be carried out in outdoor environments under varying conditions.

Overtime may be required depending on project deadlines
