About the Role
On behalf of our client, a reputable building services company delivering projects valued up to £10 million, we are recruiting a skilled Mechanical Biased Estimator to join their team. Based east of Cambridge, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of building services projects, focusing on mechanical systems, within a dynamic and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting competitive tender submissions to drive project success.
The Mechanical Biased Estimator will analyse project specifications, develop detailed mechanical cost estimates, and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure cost-effective solutions that meet high standards of quality and efficiency. This would also be an opportunity for somoene wanting to come off the tools.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and client requirements to produce precise mechanical cost estimates for building services projects.Collaborating with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to gather data and refine estimates for projects valued up to £10 million.
Identifying risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving measures within mechanical designs.
Preparing tender documentation, including bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive quotes for mechanical materials and services.
Monitoring market trends in mechanical building services costs to inform future estimates.
Supporting post-tender negotiations and contract awards.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience as an estimator with a strong focus on mechanical building services, ideally within construction or building services industries.
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical and numerical skills with a keen eye for detail.
In-depth knowledge of mechanical building services systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and industry standards.
Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and clients.
A full UK driving licence (car allowance provided).
Desirable Skills
Experience estimating for building services projects in sectors such as commercial, industrial, or public infrastructure.
Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., Conquest, Causeway
Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) tools.
Membership in a professional body (e.g., CIBSE, CIOB, RICS).
