Project Manager ( Building )
I am working with a well established SME contractor in the South East that delivers building refurbishment projects through both rail and council frameworks. The company has a strong reputation for repeat business, safe delivery and long term client relationships, and is now expanding its building division.
The role is focused on framework projects typically valued up to £350k per scheme, covering the refurbishment and improvement of operational properties such as stations, depots and council buildings. You will be involved from the earliest stage, reviewing framework opportunities, preparing tender submissions, developing works programmes and producing method statements and risk assessments, before leading delivery on site through to handover.
You will work with in house engineering, construction and commercial teams, as well as appointing and managing specialist subcontractors where required, ensuring each project is resourced and delivered effectively.
This position offers clear progression. As the pipeline of framework activity builds into multi million pound workstreams, there will be opportunities to step up into Contracts Management and, in time, Business Management.
Key responsibilities
Manage refurbishment projects from mini-competitions or direct awards through to completion and final account
Prepare tenders, works programmes, method statements and risk assessments
Lead in house engineering, construction and commercial teams and manage subcontractors to deliver safely, on time and within budget
Ensure compliance with client specifications, safety standards and legislation
Build and maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships
Monitor programme and budget, reporting regularly to senior management
Candidate profile
Five years’ experience in the UK building sector, ideally with operational property refurbishment
At least two years as a project lead with end to end delivery responsibility
Strong understanding of health and safety, quality management and planning
Ideally a Degree or equivalent in Building Studies or Construction Management
Professional project management qualification or membership of a recognised body is welcomed
Competent with Microsoft Office and project software
Full driving licence and flexibility to travel across Southern England
Ambitious and motivated to progress into senior management as the division grows
