Mechanical Fitter
Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to support the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of mechanical systems and components on National Grid infrastructure projects. The role requires working across substations, compressor stations, and other high-voltage or gas transmission facilities, adhering to strict health, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret and work from mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.

Install, align, and secure mechanical components, including pipework, pumps, valves, compressors, and other plant equipment.

Perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, and inspections in accordance with National Grid standards.

Conduct pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
*
Work collaboratively with engineers, electricians, welders, and other trades onsite.
*
Adhere strictly to HSE regulations, permit-to-work systems, and site-specific safety requirements.
*
Complete site documentation, including inspection/test records, method statements, and risk assessments.
*
Assist in lifting and rigging operations for mechanical installations.
*
Ensure quality standards are met and contribute to continuous improvement practices.
Essential Requirements:

Time-served Mechanical Fitter or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Fitting.
*
Proven experience in mechanical fitting on utility or infrastructure projects.
*
Previous work on National Grid or similar utility networks (Gas/High Voltage) highly desirable.
*
Valid CSCS or EUSR card (Persons or BESC preferred).
*
Working knowledge of mechanical systems including piping, HVAC, rotating machinery, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment.

Ability to read technical drawings and interpret engineering specifications.
