Trainee / Assistant Estimator

Artisan Recruit are looking for a Trainee or assistant estimator for a well established condtruction company nr Andover.

Job Purpose:
Joining the Commercial department, the Assistant Estimator position is a growth-focused role. You’ll begin by learning the company's current commercial processes—assisting the Commercial Officer with everything from subcontractor workflows to client tenders/bids and in-contract tasks. You’ll also support the Senior M&E Estimator in producing tender and bid documents, from gathering data to inputting information into our estimating system, Ensign. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undergo further training aligned with both the role and the future needs of the business.

Duties:

Assist in restructuring the estimating package to create kit lists that support future consistency and coherence

*

Work closely with the Commercial team to produce small works quotes in accordance with current processes and client Schedules of Rates (SORs), with the aim of leading this process through learning and development

*

Analyze job costing data to identify where costs are being allocated correctly and incorrectly to:

*

Improve the data used for tenders

*

Streamline and enhance job costing processes

*

Support the Senior Estimator throughout the entire estimating process using the Ensign estimating software

*

Update supplier terms and pricing within the Ensign system

*

Maintain up-to-date product pricing files and location-specific information from merchants through regular updates, and share with the Procurement team

*

Upon tender award, collaborate with Senior Estimators to create Kit Lists, Schedules of Rates, and maintain accurate tracking matrices

*

Assist in the creation of Product Books and technical data sheets for clients, with the goal of compiling O&M Manuals at a later stage

*

Provide accurate and thoughtful input of subcontractor data into the current ERP system (Protean) and produce reports/updates as required

*

Raise purchase orders for subcontractor work in line with policy via the Protean system

*

Assist with first-line communication via department phones and email inboxes

Skills / Qualifications:

Strong reporting, written, and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Experience in a similar industry or within the supply chain is advantageous
