Quantity Surveyor – (Solar PV Projects)

Role Definition

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all cost and contractual aspects of utility-scale solar PV farm projects. This role requires strong commercial acumen, knowledge of PV-specific construction activities, and the ability to support project teams from pre-contract through execution to final account settlement.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Planning & Estimation
Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for solar PV projects, including modules, inverters, mounting structures, cabling, civil works, and grid connection.

Benchmark PV project costs and advise on value engineering opportunities.

Contract Management
Draft, review, and administer contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.

Ensure compliance with FIDIC, NEC, or other contract forms as applicable.

Manage contract variations, claims, and dispute resolution processes.

Procurement
Support procurement strategy for solar PV components and materials and any subcontracted works.

Evaluate tenders, negotiate with suppliers/subcontractors, and prepare recommendation reports.

Cost Control & Reporting
Monitor project expenditure against budget, forecasting cash flow and cost to complete.

Prepare monthly commercial reports, CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliation), and client valuations.

Track and report on variations, change orders, and risk allowances.

Measurement & Valuations
Perform take-offs and measurements for PV-related works (DC/AC cabling, trenching, racking, module installation, HV substation).

Certify subcontractor payments and prepare interim payment applications to the client.

Close-Out
Support preparation of final accounts and project commercial close-out documentation.

Maintain accurate records of costs, claims, and correspondence throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

*

Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline or qualification

*

Experience:
5+ years in QS roles, with at least 2 years on solar PV / renewable energy projects.

Strong knowledge of EPC solar farm scope (modules, racking, cabling, inverters, substations, civils).

Skills:
Proficiency in MS Excel, cost management software, and standard QS tools.

Strong negotiation, communication, and reporting skills.

Ability to manage multiple contracts and subcontractors simultaneously.

Certifications: RICS (desirable but not essential).
