Job Overview
The Finishing Foreman is responsible for supervising the final stages of construction and installation projects, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, and timely delivery. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong leadership, and the ability to manage subcontractors and trades effectively while maintaining safety and budgetary controls.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Supervision & Quality Control
Oversee and coordinate all finishing trades, including plastering, painting, tiling, flooring, joinery, and snagging works.
Ensure all works are completed to specification, drawings, and building regulations.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify defects and ensure timely rectification.
Monitor and manage snagging lists, resolving all issues prior to handover.
2. Health & Safety Compliance
Enforce and promote a strong health and safety culture on-site.
Ensure compliance with UK building regulations and health & safety legislation.
Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
Ensure correct use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols.
3. Team & Subcontractor Management
Coordinate and manage subcontractors, ensuring quality standards are met.
Communicate effectively with contract managers, site managers, and other trades.
Motivate and guide finishing teams to maintain productivity and quality.
Ensure adherence to schedules and deadlines.
4. Progress Monitoring & Reporting
Track and report progress of finishing works, flagging delays or issues to project management.
Attend site meetings and provide updates on project status.
Liaise with buyers and other departments to ensure timely availability of materials.
5. Handover & Client Liaison
Support final inspections and handover processes.
Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure satisfaction with completed finishes.
Address last-minute snagging or modifications as required.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Finishing Foreman.
Strong knowledge of finishing trades and techniques.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and keen attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Solid understanding of health & safety regulations.
Qualifications
Valid CSCS card (Supervisor level preferred).
SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
First Aid at Work certification (desirable).
NVQ Level 3 or higher in a relevant trade (preferred).
Full UK driving licence (may be required depending on project location).
Working Conditions
Site-based role with travel required across multiple projects.
Core working hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work to meet deadlines.
Work environments include both indoor and outdoor settings depending on project phase.
Expected to undertake additional duties as assigned by line management.
Participation in monthly performance reviews (one-to-ones).
Salary & Benefits
£35,000 – £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
