Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
The Client and Project Info:
Our client is a Tier One M&E Contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering complex, large-scale projects across sectors including data centres, commercial, infrastructure, pharmaceutical, and high-end residential. They are currently seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Manager to join their team on a flagship commercial development in Central London.
This is a key role within the project delivery team, responsible for the end-to-end commissioning of all mechanical systems. The successful candidate will lead the commissioning process from pre-commissioning planning through to client handover, ensuring all mechanical systems are fully integrated, tested, and delivered to the highest standards of performance and compliance.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Manager with a strong technical background and a track record of successful mechanical delivery on major MEP projects.
Mechanical Commissioning Manager Responsibilities:

Reporting to and working closely with the Project Director and Commissioning Lead.

Leading the mechanical commissioning process across HVAC, plumbing, chilled water, BMS interfaces, and other building services systems.

Developing and managing commissioning schedules, strategy documents, and method statements.
*
Coordinating and supervising commissioning teams, specialist subcontractors, and vendors.
*
Ensuring systems are commissioned in line with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.
*
Supporting design reviews to ensure systems are commissionable and accessible for maintenance.
*
Attending and chairing commissioning meetings with stakeholders and client representatives.
*
Managing commissioning documentation including test packs, method statements, ITPs, and O&M manuals.

Overseeing the resolution of commissioning-related issues and technical challenges.
*
Ensuring robust quality control procedures are followed during commissioning phases.
*
Liaising with other disciplines to ensure integrated system commissioning and early issue identification.
*
Tracking progress and providing regular updates and detailed reports to senior management.
*
Supporting training and demonstration of systems for client FM and operations teams.
*
Driving a culture of safety and quality compliance across all commissioning activities.
Mechanical Commissioning Manager Requirements:

Strong mechanical background with a proven track record in the commissioning of mechanical systems on major M&E projects.
*
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
*
Minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in a commissioning or project delivery role within the building services industry.

Experience working on Tier One construction or M&E projects (data centres, commercial, pharma, infrastructure, or high-end residential).
*
Excellent understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, BMS, chilled water, LTHW/HTHW, domestic water, and fire protection.
*
Familiarity with industry commissioning standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, BSRIA).

Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills, with the ability to manage teams and multiple subcontractors.

Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and commissioning schedules.
*
Strong organisational and time management skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
*
Competent with commissioning software and documentation platforms (e.g., CxAlloy, Procore, BIM 360).
*
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with confidence in client-facing roles.
