Client and Project Info:

Our client is a Tier One M&E Subcontractor delivering full mechanical and electrical services on some of the UK’s most prestigious commercial developments. With a long-standing reputation for technical excellence, programme certainty, and high-spec delivery across commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, and high-rise residential sectors, they are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Manager to lead mechanical works on a landmark commercial project.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of mechanical delivery on-site, working closely with senior project leadership, consultants, and the wider site team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, commercially aware Mechanical Manager with a background in large-scale, complex developments.

Mechanical Manager Responsibilities:

Reporting to the MEP Project Manager or Project Director as part of the senior site delivery team.

*

Taking full ownership of all mechanical packages including HVAC, public health, drainage, and mechanical plant.

*

Leading subcontractor coordination, sequencing, and integration with other disciplines on site.

*

Managing and reviewing technical submissions, shop drawings, and procurement schedules.

*

Ensuring compliance with all specifications, design intent, and industry standards across all mechanical works.

*

Monitoring installation progress, resource allocation, and delivery against programme milestones.

*

Driving quality control across all stages of the build, including inspections, snag resolution, and rework sign-offs.

*

Supporting commissioning, testing, and witnessing activities, ensuring systems are delivered and handed over defect-free.

*

Maintaining robust site records, progress tracking, and reporting to senior management and the client team.

*

Enforcing strict health and safety compliance across all mechanical operations on site.

*

Collaborating with the planning team on short-term and long-term programme updates and mitigation plans.

*

Identifying design or coordination issues early and providing engineering input to resolve efficiently.

Mechanical Manager Requirements:

*

Proven experience managing mechanical works on large-scale commercial or mixed-use construction projects (typically £10m+ MEP value).

*

Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, BMS, water services, drainage, and plant installation.

*

Experience working with or for Tier 1 M&E contractors or reputable main contractors.

*

Solid understanding of design coordination, BIM processes, and modern MEP installation practices.

*

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple subcontractor teams, drive performance, and maintain quality standards.

*

Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure delivery environment with programme and commercial awareness.

*

Valid SMSTS or SSSTS certification (SMSTS preferred).

*

CSCS Managerial Card (essential).

*

First Aid at Work (preferred).

*

Experience with digital site tools (e.g. Field View, BIM 360, Aconex) is advantageous.
