Freelance Design Manager – Mid-Rise Residential Scheme 

Location: Stoke Newington, London

Start Date: 1 month

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our team on a freelance basis, acting as the No. 2 lead on a mid-rise residential scheme in Stoke Newington.

Role Overview:

Working alongside the lead Design Manager, you will support the coordination and management of design activities across the project. This is a hands-on role requiring excellent organisational, technical, and communication skills to ensure that design information is delivered on time, to the required quality, and aligned with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the lead Design Manager in driving the design process from pre-construction through delivery stages.

Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to manage design packages.

Review drawings and specifications, flagging design risks, clashes, or inconsistencies.

Support in chairing design team meetings and maintaining accurate records.

Help ensure compliance with planning, building regulations, and client requirements.

Manage document control processes and information flow between stakeholders.

Requirements:

Proven experience in design management within residential or mixed-use projects (ideally mid-rise schemes).

Strong understanding of RIBA stages, technical drawings, and construction detailing.

Ability to work effectively as a No. 2, supporting a lead Design Manager while taking responsibility for specific packages.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
